Joseph Gordon-Levitt's The Dark Knight Rises Character Revealed

Only one day after Variety revealed that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was confirmed to appear in director Christopher Nolan's third and final Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, in an unspecified role, the original article has been updated with information about the character that Gordon-Levitt will be playing in the movie. According to Variety's "insiders," Gordon-Levitt will portray Alberto Falcone, the son of mob boss Carmine Falcone, played by Tom Wilkinson in Batman Begins. In the DC comic books on which the movies are based, Alberto is known as "the Holiday Killer" because of his year-long killing spree of notorious Gotham criminals, each coinciding with the dates of various holidays.

Nolan conceived the idea for The Dark Knight Rises and his brother Jonathan wrote the script. Christian Bale returns as Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, as do Morgan Freeman, Sir Michael Caine and Gary Oldman as Lucius Fox, Alfred Pennyworth and Commissioner James Gordon, respectively. Joining the cast are Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane, and Juno Temple as a "street-smart Gotham girl." The movie is expected to go into production in May.
